Big Ten Men’s Basketball

The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Notebook is on College Chalk Talk this season.  I’ll roll out a weekly column of coaching insight and other nuggets…

Here is a preview of my first edition of House’s :30 Second Time Out beginning next week.

Be sure to check College Chalk Talk each week for the Big Ten Notebook.

Chasson Randle – 2011 Rock Island HS, Rock Island. IL, 6’1 PTG – will be visiting the Illini this weekend for the festivities.  Chasson has already visited Purdue. Is considered a Top 40 prospect in the 2011 class and a Top 10 PTG.  Randle is a terrific athlete and plays the point with a scorer’s mentality.  He can attack off the dribble, posses a very mature ‘floater’ for a younger player and is a quality finisher with either hand.  He must continue to increase his range and distinguished himself as a scoring point guard or a legit two-guard… right now, he a combo and one of the better one’s left on the board.

Is it true?… the Snoop D-O-Double G is kicking off the college basketball season with the Wildcats in Evanston?   A&O Productions presents Snoop Dogg & Kid Cudi for the A&O Blowout 2010 at Welsh Arena.  Tickets are on sale for $15 for Northwestern undergraduates on the Norris Box Office online system.  What and Who will be the ‘Cats encore at their NCAA selection show party in March?

The Spartan’s Tom Izzo will be honored with the Legends of Coaching Award as part of the John R. Wooden ceremony in April 2011.  No coach in the Big Ten has enjoyed the consistent success in the NCAA Tournament in the last decade.  Izzo coached teams have reached six Final Fours while winning 74.5% of the NCAA Tournament game they have competed in, trailing only two other coaches.  Without question, one of the best coaches ever.

11 PM EST on Saturday October 16th the Big Ten Network will present ‘BIG TEN HOOPS HYSTERIA’, the official tip-off to the 2010-11 college basketball season.  The coverage is the traditional ‘whip-around’ looks into events at Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Check back with College Chalk Talk and link into five of the events available through live video streaming.   The schedule is as follows: Indiana (8:15 PM ET, Friday), Michigan State (10 PM ET, Friday), Illinois (11 PM ET, Friday), Minnesota (11 PM ET, Friday) and Wisconsin (3:30 PM CT, Saturday).  Use this link BIG TEN MIDNIGHT MADNESS LIVE.

There will be NO Midnight Madness for the Wolverine’s this season.  In 2009 – 10 Michigan introduced the Wolverine faithful to Midnight Madness for the first time during the Beilein era.  “That was my decision,” Michigan coach John Beilein said. “It is homecoming weekend and I just wanted to go to work.  I’ve never been a big fan of that, especially when it has been at midnight.   Last year we had a pulled hamstring in it. We just all want to go to work and we hope there will be more hoopla as we watch this team grow and people come to games to do it as opposed to start off the season.”

2011 Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments All-Session Tickets on Sale Monday, Oct. 18.  Games in Indianapolis and Conseco Field house March 3-6 & 10-13.
